Friends Forever

One day as I woke up, I found my self standing in front a mirror watching the changes in my life, viewing my different experiences that led me to success and friends that inspire and love me just the same.

Many people become successful, isn’t it? But behind those success there are failures. Failures that gets the most important thing in you. The most important part of your life, like a person that inspires you.

Your friend is always there right behind you. They love and care for you. They wipe your tears when you fail and make you laugh to make your day clear.

Friendship is the greatest gift from God. It is hard to gain a friend that is very dedicated to you, always there for you, and loves you more than his self.

But what I have done? I didn’t give him importance as a friend. I did not appreciate what he have done to me. The help that he gave me and the friendship that he built for me.

Now that he has gone, I felt that I lose a brother, a bro, a caz, and a best friend that cares for me and always there to guide me in the road of challenge, joy and sadness. I made a wrong decision and a wrong thing that make me lose a FRIEND. Now I realize that friendship is the most important thing in teenage years.

Those memories are stored in a little box, that I will keep it in the deep inside of my heart and would remind me how important friendship is and how hard it is to gain a true friend.

I will now face the new chapter of my life, the new page of an old book and a next mile of a hilly road.

Governor Nava Supports to the No Mining Campaign

JORDAN, GUIMARAS – Stickers and streamers emblazoned with “Spare Guimaras” have appeared in this province marking the start of a campaign against mining on the island.

Guimaras Gov. Felipe Nava said the province would launch the campaign against approved and pending applications for mining in the province because of its environmental and health effects.

The applications covered 70-80 percent of the 60,000-hectare island, with areas ranging from 2,000 to 30,000 ha, Nava said.

“This will destroy the island,” Nava told reporters here on Monday at the sidelines of the briefing on rehabilitation efforts on areas devastated by the August 2006 oil spill.

Guimaras is known for its pristine beaches, export-quality mangoes and rich natural resources.

Nava, a physician, said the province has seen the devastating effects of mining in Sipalay City in Negros Occidental and other areas that were ravaged by years of mining operations.

“We can recover from an oil spill but damage from mining operations would be permanent,” he said.

Nava said the province does not oppose all forms of mining but only large-scale mining and extraction of minerals like gold and copper, which would require deep and massive excavations.

The people of Guimaras earlier voiced their opposition to the mining exploration application of Fil-Asian Strategic Resources and Properties Corp. (FASRPC).

FASRPC, a subsidiary of the Australia-based Rusina Mining NL, plans to explore for gold and copper deposits in a 2,400-ha area covering nine of 20 villages of Nueva Valencia.

The villages covered by the application include Napandong, Sto. Domingo, Lucmayan, San Roque, Salvacion, La Paz, Cabalagnan, Canhawan and Igdarapdap.

The firm also applied for a permit for mining exploration on a 621-ha area on Pan De Azucar Island in Concepcion, Iloilo.

Nava said the people must be vigilant against mining because mining applications no longer require the approval of local government units.

The province plans to join the Partnership for Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (Pemsea) to strengthen its antimining campaign.

The Guimaras Province

GUIMARAS ISLAND, Philippines still suffering from the effects of an oil spill, the town of Nueva Valencia in this island province passed a resolution opposing an exploration project proposed by a giant mining company.

Nueva Valencia was one of the areas hardest hit by the oil spill in 2006 after an oil tanker sank in rough seas off Guimaras Island.

The town is home to the University of the Philippines-Visayas’ marine biological station and the 1,143-hectare Taklong Island National Marine Reserve.

Many of residents signed a position paper opposing the proposed mining exploration project.

The residents and environmental groups fear that the Fil-Asian Strategic Resources and Properties Corp. (FASRPC) project would pose a threat to their town, which is still recovering from the massive oil spill.

Signature campaign is ongoing in the 20 villages of Nueva Valencia as well as in the four municipalities of the province.

FASRPC, a subsidiary of the Australia-based Rusina Mining NL, has plans of conducting exploration for gold and copper deposits in a 2,400-hectare area covering nine of the 20 villages of Nueva Valencia.

Coronel said the company will abide by the decision of the Mines and Geo-sciences Bureau on their application, but will respect the stand of the residents.

“There’s nothing we can do if the people are against it,” he said.
